When I started the daily motivation category, I wrote an introductory post saying that I find motivation in all sorts of things, movies being one. Up to this point, I haven’t written about any movies that struck me as something that I could apply to the topic of weight loss motivation. Last night however, I watched an excellent movie that I must tell you about.
The movie is titled A Family Thing and stars Robert Duvall and James Earl Jones. The movie in itself is top notch, and both of these actors are just fabulous, anyway. There is a scene in the movie when Robert Duvall’s character tells his nephew a story about having something to look forward, and this being the key to happiness.
I thought about how this could apply to weight loss, specifically what do you have to look forward to while losing weight? If you do, this will greatly help you stay motivation and on track.
There are many things that you could be looking forward to that your weight loss will affect. Here are just 3 that I gain motivation from while I’m losing weight:
1. Monday morning weigh in. I suggest staying off of that scale and only weighing once a week. It’s easy to get obsessed with the scale, and then you are completely focused on a number instead of on shaping up and improving your health.
If you only weigh yourself on Monday morning, this gives you something to look forward to! 😉
2. Rewards for reaching small goals. A good way to go is to set up 5-pound goals. Then, each time you reach a 5-pound marker, you get a reward. You get to decide what your rewards are, and I suggest you write them down and post them up where you will see them.
Make sure you follow through and buy yourself that reward when you reach a goal, it’s important for yourself and your motivation. 😉 I haven’t always followed through before, which defeats the purpose.
3. Getting in to smaller sized clothes. I own several pairs of pants that used to fit me. I will have new wardrobe in my closet that I can wear as soon as I get closer to my goal weight. Getting back into clothes your already own, or new clothes in a smaller size.
These are just 3 things to look forward to during your weight loss. There are so many more that you can come up with, especially if you have health problems that will improve by losing weight.
Back to the movie that inspired me to write this post – it has nothing at all to do with weight loss, but if you’re in the mood for an excellent story (co-written by Billie Bob Thornton), I recommend it, it’s great.
How about knowing that each day you are becoming healthier?
J, sure, that’s excellent one! I’d rather focus on health than on weight anyway. 😉
