It’s already been eight weeks since I began my experiment in emotional eating with the Shrink Yourself online program, can you believe it? While 12 weeks might sound like a long time to work on healing your emotional eating it’s really not, especially when you look at how long you’ve been sabotaging yourself with emotional eating.
For myself, I’ve been sabotaging my weight loss efforts by emotionally eating for practically my entire life. Nope, it’s not a good thing because it doesn’t give me what I want – weight loss and lifetime maintenance at my goal weight.
UPDATE 2015: Hi, as you can see by the date on this article, I wrote this a LONG time ago, May 2008 which was over 7 years ago. At that time in 2008 I was not a professional, certified coach and professional certified Master NLP Pracitioner. I had not yet founded The Inner Self Dietâ„¢ which is my proven, proprietary, step-by-step personal coaching program for permanent weight loss. That’s right! I personally coach my clients to the end of their emotional eating, binge eating, self-sabotage, food obsessions, food addictions, low self-esteem and much more. Click here to read coaching client testimonials from my coaching client, click here to listen to audio testimonials, and watch videos of graduates of The Inner Self Dietâ„¢ in the sidebar of this page you’re on now.
Back in 2008 I did this Shrink Yourself Program and it was nice and all, but it didn’t heal the root of the problem like the binge eating coaching and emotional eating coaching I do with my clients does. Shrink Yourself Week Eight – Personal Growth
When you have frustrated dreams and desires in your life these can easily turn on your emotional hunger and emotional eating. You might find yourself doing a lot of late night eating and running to the kitchen for those sweets when what you really want to do is feel like you’re making progress in your life towards your dreams and goals – and I don’t mean weight loss goals. 😉
The thing is, you don’t have to get overwhelmed with accomplishing your lifelong dream, which can also turn into emotional eating (feeling overwhelmed), but instead you can take baby steps that will make you feel the progress towards fulfilling the potential in your life that you truly desire.
Shrink Yourself Comes Through Again
In week eight’s guided session you answer questions that narrow down what areas of your life you want to grow in. I’ve said this before but in case you haven’t read any of my previous installments in this series, Shrink Yourself is not about weight loss. Well, that’s not really true, because the reason you do this program is because you do want to lose weight. What I mean is that this isn’t about how to eat or exercise.
Instead, you explore the areas of your life that trigger your emotional hunger and emotional eating. Therefore, if you get a handle on your emotional eating, you will be able to successfully lose weight with a healthy weight loss and exercise plan and keep it off.
There’s more to this that you learn about when doing week eight of Shrink Yourself and it’s really great because you can see how you don’t need to go out and conquer the world today in order to quell your emotional hunger, but instead there are steps you can take now that will move you towards your dreams and life potential.
My Personal Experience
I haven’t completely healed my emotional eating and feelings to self-sabotage, however I can definitely say that when I’m on track and focused and really going for my goals pertaining to my personal growth that I don’t feel the emotional hunger. However I am not in that space 100% of the time, therefore I still have the emotional hunger pop up.
What Shrink Yourself is helping me with is identifying what triggers my emotional hunger (my hunger switch) and effectively dealing with it without allowing it to derail my weight loss progress.
As far as my weight loss progress goes, I did drop another pound this week after dropping 4 pounds last week.
If you’re like me and have struggled with emotional eating and the back and forth weight loss followed by regains (yo-you syndrome), I heartily recommend the Shrink Yourself program. And if you haven’t read the previous posts in my series yet, start out with my introductory post, which will give you a good overview of what this program is all about.
2015: Be sure to read the update I wrote at the beginning of this post since this post you’ve just read is very old. I wrote it over 7 years ago and the Shrink Yourself program did not yield the results that my coaching clients get from The Inner Self Dietâ„¢. Binge eating and emotional eating are very challenging problems and without the accountability of a professional real-life coach it’s too easy to purchase an online program and avoid taking action with it. All the best! ~ JoLynn Braley, Permanent Weight Loss Coach and Founder of The Inner Self Dietâ„¢.
You may not be in that emotional hunger free zone 100% of the time, but you’re
identifying what your triggers are and what you can do about them. That’s significant progress.
The feeling (emotional hunger) may always drop by to visit, but now you’re learning how to take care of it in ways that don’t involve a trip to the cookie jar! And that’s a major accomplishment! 🙂
