What are you really hungry for? If you are an overeater have you ever considered that your hunger has nothing to do with food or the physical need of your body for sustenance?
Perhaps you eat when you aren’t even physically hungry and maybe you cannot remember the last time that your stomach was empty or even comfortable. Maybe you keep yourself “full” at all times.
What Are You Hungry For?
There are many things that you could be hungry for, hungers that you are trying to satisfy with food, or you may be hungry for only one thing (self-love?).
Either way whether it’s one or more hungers in your life, if you were to satisfy the real hunger then you’d have a much much easier time of creating healthier lifestyle habits. Of course a side-benefit would be weight loss, which sounds like a good deal to me! 😉
Here are just a few things that you could be hungry for in your life, hungers you are trying to “fill” with food:
- Love
- Spirituality
- Respect
- Fun
- Positivity
- Friendship
- Community
- Recognition
- Safety
- Passion
- Money
- Purpose
- Confidence
- LIFE (energy, focus, purpose, etc.)
Food Won’t Do It For Ya
There is no amount of food that can satisfy the non-physical hungers but if you aren’t aware and conscious of what you are truly hungry for you could spend your whole life attempting to fill up something that you cannot fill.
This post is obviously not going to solve your non-physical hungers for you but it’s the first step – awareness.
If you hadn’t ever considered what you are really hungry for then I invite you to explore the possibility that you aren’t hungry for food when you’re overeating. It will take self-honesty but if you are willing you can discover what it is that you are really hungry for.
Once you know what it is and then work to fill that hunger then you will be amazed at how easy it is to change your eating and exercise habits for life (and lose weight!)
This is so true! I’ve been watching that show, Ruby, and she is also addressing this issue. The really hard part in dieting can be trying to uncover the truth about your hunger. Thanks for covering this topic. Judie
