There’s a place called Someday-ville that’s really easy to get stuck in when you want to lose weight.
Someday-ville is the place you live when you’re constantly telling yourself you’ll start over again on Monday.
But the moving truck never arrives and you never move out of Someday-ville because when Monday arrives it’s too easy to tell yourself “I’ll start over again next Monday!” … and it just keeps going and going, it’s always (always) “later”….
Before you know it it’s the end of the year again, and you’re faced with making another New Year’s Resolution to lose weight.
But if that worked then what would be the problem, right? If a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight worked then why would you be reading these words now, you know what I mean?
Hey, I understand what it’s like because I’ve been totally stuck before too. But if you don’t commit and make a real change then you just keep rolling on with the Monday Mantra that never really seems to materialize….
So then what’s the problem?
Why is it so easy to stay stuck?
Stop Dreaming About Weight Loss Start Seeing the Scale Move Now
One problem is of course the food, processed food. Processed food is highly addictive.
Sugar is highly addictive.
And Food is a Legal Addiction. Some grocery stores are open 24 hours so you can get your fix any time of day or night. Or just call Uber Eats for at home delivery!
Yes, processed food, fast food, junk food, it’s all highly addictive and I totally understand because I have felt addicted to sugar, definitely.
Did you know that sugar can be just as addictive in the human body as cocaine? But again, it’s legal to “use food”.
But then an even bigger problem is the emotional addiction. You see, at least with the chemical addiction of sugar and the other ingredients, you can flush most of that out of your system after eating clean for just 3 days. But what does that do for your emotional addiction to food?
The Emotional Addiction to Food can Be the Strongest
When you rely on food to “get through” you have a story around food that is hard to break because of your emotional ties to food and also your mental ties to food, meaning what you think and believe about what food can do for you beyond food being fuel for life.
When food is your best friend, your lover, and your family, it can feel like food has so much power over you that no matter how many diets you try you just can’t stick with it.
How can you stick with a diet and lose weight when food is what you rely on in life? Does this make sense?
Does it also make sense that this is why food diets haven’t been enough to fix your overeating, especially if you are struggling with emotional eating, binge eating, and yo-yo dieting?
Go Within to Stop Waiting on Your Weight
If you want to stop waiting on your weight in SomedayVille where weight loss is always and forever “next Monday”, always in the future…. and instead pack up the moving truck and move into NowVille where the scale actually moves and you see real progress, then you’ll have to take action… but the kind of action you take is what’s important.
Most reading this would immediately think “I have to diet to lose weight” when I say “you’ll have to take action”. Sure, you have to change your eating habits to lose weight, absolutely, but that’s only 7.2% of the solution.
92.8% of the solution for successful weight loss is the inner work that you do. This is the work you must do to heal your relationship with food, to forgive yourself for gaining weight, for letting yourself go, to find new ways to live life and get through each day instead of using food as a crutch, to change your beliefs so that you believe YOU are worth it, and more.
This is the most important work you can do if you really want to lose weight for good. If you really want to break free of emotional eating, binge eating, and yo-yo dieting, it’s an inside out process. This is what food diets never address. A healthy eating plan is great and you do need to change your eating to lose weight but if you never address WHY you gained so much weight in the first place, if you never address WHY you’ve been eating food when you’re not physically hungry, if you never address your emotional connection to food, then how far can you get with a food diet?
How far have you gotten up until now?
