I was speaking with a woman the other day who told me she wanted to lose weight but she didn’t have the time – there were too many other things that were “pressing” on her plate.
So have you ever felt like this? Do you tell yourself this today? Are you being 100% totally and completely honest with YOU when you tell yourself, your very best friend in this entire world, that you don’t have time for YOU?
The REAL Deal – What Do You Value?
One of my mentors shared the thought with me recently that, “you always have time for those things you value”, which because we are talking about value, reminds me of a core statement from A Course in Miracles:
“You can never lose anything of value”
I get this, that you can never lose anything of value, and I would follow this with my question to anyone who would say they do not have time for themselves: why would you choose to place such a low value on your health? Your health, which is the Most Important thing you could honor in this life? I mean, if you don’t have your health, what do you really have??
Have You Been There? (Maybe you ARE there?)
Have you ever been sick, very sick, or injured? If so, is there anything else you can think about except how you feel physically and how very very much you want to get better?
I injured my hand once, several years ago and I could not do my job. It was an extremely humbling experience because I’ve always had excellent health and it was a very difficult time to go through, especially since I didn’t have anyone close by who could help me out.
When I was going through this it was difficult to think about anything else, it was all so overshadowing. My hand was just “there”, limping along with me wherever I went, but I could not use it. There were so many things I couldn’t do, like the simple task of carrying a laundry basket. My hand was pretty much the only thing I thought about!
So Many Thoughts About Food and Weight
When you think about it, it makes sense that you spend so much time thinking about your weight, low energy, and any aches pains and illnesses brought about by being overweight and/or obese. It can be hard to “escape” from the physical, although do it you must if you wish to change it (the change all begins on the inside).
If you haven’t experienced any physical difficulties can you imagine living every day in a body filled with pain? Pain from aching joints, lack of easy breath, so much pain and low energy from carrying around 10’s if not 100’s of pounds of extra weight? Perhaps you are living like this now and you can completely relate to what I’m writing about.
Try This Out
Sometimes when you’re “in the body” with the extra weight you don’t realize how much of a burden it is. Try this out: go to the grocery store and pick up a 10 pound bad of potatoes and carry that around for 10 minutes. That’s only 10 pounds – imagine the relief that dropping just 10 pounds from your body would give you!
You Still Don’t Have the Time?
If you’re telling yourself that you don’t have the time to take care of yourself, to lose the fat, shape up, and get fit in body, mind, and spirit, when will you have the time? When will you value yourself enough to give yourself the highest quality of life that you deserve? Or, maybe that’s the challenge right there – do you believe that you deserve to be thin, fit, and healthy?
Just Some Thoughts….
These are just some thoughts to pass along to you today. I encourage you to look at what you value if you have been telling yourself that you don’t have time to take care of yourself, that you don’t have time to shop for healthy, life-giving foods, and to walk for 30 minutes (or even 15 minutes) a day.
If you continue to put yourself last, what will happen when your lack of interest in YOU compounds daily, monthly, and yearly? What will the outcome be?
Life is supposed to feel good – it’s not supposed to be a struggle. Good health feels good. So does flexibility, strength, vitality, and energy. A fit, toned, healthy body feels gooooood, and that is how life is supposed to feel. How could you not value feeling good? How could you not value and take time for YOU?

I think for some people they think they don’t have the time for weight loss because it seems so overwhelming. But surprisingly you may find you have more time, especially if you get on a schedule! You are right that it is all about the value and the priority you put on it!
