If you’re a blogger and you want more traffic for your site, there’s a new (free!) service that you might be interested in. It’s called BlogRush and the concept is that by placing their widget on your site, you rack up points that count towards your blog posts being shown in the widget that is hosted on other blogs in your category. Therefore, your post titles will be shown in the widget to other blog readers who are already interested in your blog topic. Currently they have 34 blog categories to choose from, so you should be able to fit your blog in one of them.
So, let’s say that you sign up and your blog fits under the health & medicine category like Fearless Fat Loss. You place the widget on your blog and every time one of your pages is loaded that widget is loaded and refreshed. So, if you have 100 page loads, they count as 100 “credits” for you, meaning that your post titles will be displayed 100 times in the widgets displayed on other blogs in your category.
This gives blog readers of the other blogs an opportunity to click on your post title in the widget, which will take them to your blog. Additionally, on your blog your readers can click on the bottom right corner of the BlogRush widget and sign up for the free service for their own blog. When they do this they become your referral, which will help you gain more credits and will convert to more traffic for you. There is one catch that you need to be aware of when you are writing your posts, and that is your titles. Your post title is all that will be displayed in the widget, along with either the author or blog name, so you want to create a “clickable” title, while of course staying true to your post topic. 😉
I decided to post about this because I’ve added the widget to my sidebar and I’ve also used the BlogRush application to send invites to a couple of bloggers that I’ve met since starting my blog. This post gives you some more information on BlogRush and how the widget works, as well as the fact that it’s a free service making it an easy one to try out.
I do recommend signing up early so that you can grow your network because when you have referrals join under you, that also helps your traffic. For a visual tour of BlogRush and more details on how the referrals work, just watch this video. 😉
interesting, this may be worth checking out and the name blogrush is bound to attract peoples attention
I just came across Blogrush today and I’m going to experiment with it on my blog. Are you already noticing any benefits?
Hi, thanks for your comments!
I thought it was…it’s a free service, and if it helps everyone’s traffic all around, then I don’t see how it’s all that bad. 😉
Hi Dee,
It’s only been live for 5 days now, and I put it on my site about 3 or 4 days ago. I have had a few visitors from the service already, but I’m stressing the timing because I think it’s important to give it a couple weeks before judging it fully. If you haven’t implemented it yet I’d recommend doing it right away. 😉
I know we all want to see instant results, but they are in process of ironing out a few bugs and getting rid of the “baddie” blogs….evidently some splogs got through so now they are manually reviewing every blog that applies….I think that’s great so that there will only be quality blogs in the line-up. 😉
Hi JoLynn,
I’m trying it on one of my blogs for a month or so. I just saw Blogrush will be adding colors to the widget, so you you can match it with your template.
Hi Dee,
That sounds great…their team seems very sincere about addressing the concerns and suggestions of the community, I really think that this can be a neat tool, a win-win all around.
I like the new colors, I’ll move the widget up higher on my sidebar after those are implemented. BTW, I’ve continued to get traffic from it, so it’s definitely working! 🙂
