Ever heard of Yoda? He’s our official guest for the day, here to give us a wake up call and a boost in the right direction.
Do or Do Not -There Is NO Try
If you’re not familiar with Yoda you can either go rent Star Wars or just take my word for it that he’s a very wise soul. He can teach us all a thing or two about weight loss because just like anything else in life you either DO IT or you don’t – the word “try” doesn’t mean anything when it comes to any worthwhile endeavor.
Now if it makes you feel better to say that you are “trying” to lose weight you can do that but I’d suggest that you stay conscious of why you’re telling that story (only to make yourself feel better) and stay honest with yourself about the fact that until you take action you just aren’t going to get the results that you are saying you want. 😉
Action = More Action
Something funny about taking action and doing (and something easy to forget about when you’re stuck in inaction!) is that action begets more action. Sometimes it can be the hardest step to take, that first one, but after you put one foot in front of the other and get moving out the door it’s so much easier to keep on moving; it’s really true. If you’re struggling with your motivation the best advice I can give you is to DO SOMETHING – something healthy and positive of course, but just DO IT.
Trying to do won’t get you anywhere. It won’t help you gain more motivation or get you to your goals but if you can just take that first step and then a second step (then a third!) you’ll be amazed at how much easier it gets. Again though, it’s just that first step that can be the hardest and you already know this because it applies to anything in life whether it’s picking up the phone to say you’re sorry, asking for a raise at work, or registering for college courses as an adult student. It’s that first step that can be difficult to take but once you do it you build momentum and keep on going.
DO or Do Not – There is No Try!
So the question is, what are you going to do today? What healthy action are you going to take to get you moving in the right direction? Or, is there some other action that you’ve been putting off, an action that will give you a great return if you will only take it?
Whatever it is as long as it’s positive I encourage you to take it today and get on the road to accomplishment – you won’t get there by “trying”!
So true! That’s why I got on the exercise bike at 1am — I had to get it in! (But I will try to plan better tomorrow ;-))

So true – there is a different reaction in your mindset when you say “I will try to” instead of “I will”… And its definitely something we all need to think about.
Ah, this brings back memories of seeing Star Wars for the 1st time when I was much younger. At that time, I was not conscious enough to appreciate all of the messages, but now I really see the wisdom of Yoda. I think that “try” is really an escape hatch, which just gives us an excuse to bail when the going gets tough or even to avoid making a commitment at all. Here’s to taking first steps-no matter how small!
Very true and a well said quote I must say! I feel quite motivated to do regular workouts now. Do it or don’t do it! You don’t know JB, but I feel so much inspired by this quote that I think I am going to apply it in my every endeavor. I am not overweight, but have few extra inches to lose from here and there. Thanks for this inspiring post!:)
