1. FOCUS ON YOUR WHY
When it comes to weight loss, it’s easy to get caught up in the how and the what. We obsess over the latest diets, exercise routines, supplements, and maybe even look into unnatural shots and pills, but we forget to address the real reason why we want to lose weight in the first place.
That’s where your “why” comes in. Your why is the purpose or meaning behind your goal. It’s the reason you’re doing this in the first place. For example, maybe you want to lose weight because you want to feel more confident, have more energy, or improve your health.
Whatever your why may be, make sure you keep it in mind as you move forward. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.
2. BANISH NEGATIVE TALK
Negative self-talk can be a major obstacle when it comes to weight loss. The constant criticism and self-doubt can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression. And these emotions can make it even harder to stick to your plan.
So, what can you do? Start by becoming aware of the negative self-talk and then challenge it. Ask yourself if the thoughts are really true. For example, if you catch yourself thinking “I’ll never be able to lose weight,” ask yourself if there’s any evidence to support that thought. Chances are, there isn’t. Instead, focus on positive affirmations such as “I am capable of achieving my goals.”
It can also help to journal out your negative thoughts to bring them into the light, challenge them pen on paper.
3. GET SUPPORT
Trying to lose weight on your own can be isolating and frustrating. After all, it’s hard to stay motivated when no one understands what you’re going through.
Here’s some tough love: get rid of all excuses and seek out support! There’s no reason you need to isolate and “go it alone”. This is a common problem though, most of my weight loss coaching clients struggled with the same issue before finding me online.
There are numerous resources available to help you get support and reach your weight loss goals and of course I recommend coaching, which is what I’ve been doing with clients since 2009. Coaching is the fastest way to break free of the weight loss cycle if you’re focusing on healing the root of your overeating.
Consider joining a weight loss support group, working with a professional coach, or finding an accountability partner. These resources can provide you with the motivation and guidance you need to succeed.
