3 Reasons Losing Weight Is the Hardest Thing You’ve Ever DoneWoman on couch
How many times have you heard others say that losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done in your entire life? Maybe you feel the same, even if you haven’t been successful with it yet!

Many, if not most, agree: losing weight is the hardest thing to do in life and sure, there are good reasons for it. In this article I’m going to share 3 reasons losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done but first, I just want to say that you absolutely can lose weight if you want to, but it can be very challenging, especially if you’re battling against food addiction, sugar addiction, emotional eating, binge eating, and mindset habits that lean into eating choices that work against the weight loss you want.

Mindset is 92.8% of successful weight loss, which is a topic you’ll never learn from mainstream diets. This is Good News though, because if you start working on your mindset now and get a weight loss mindset, then you’ll have the most powerful key to weight loss that will help you get to your goal weight.

A weight loss mindset makes living a healthy lifestyle feel like “no big deal”, and a healthy lifestyle is definitely required in order to lose weight for good.

3 Reasons Losing Weight Is the Hardest Thing You’ve Ever Done

Let’s take a look at 3 reasons losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done (or maybe not done, and my 3 reasons might give you some insights!)

1.) Weight Loss Takes Time, and often, a lot of time is required.

In the day and age of instant answers, instant pictures, and instant emotions on the Internet, many have fallen into the expectation that everything you want in life should appear instantly.

Want a relationship? It should be instant with online dating, right?

Want to make more money? It should be instant because that’s what Instagram says, right?

Want to lose weight? It should be instant too, right?

Well… this is funny: All three of the above are wrong expectations and there really are people (many people) who believe that relationships, making more money, and weight loss really should be instant, or at least they should all appear within 3 days, right?

No joke, this is a very real, and self-sabotaging expectation that is running rampant today, and before the age of the Internet there were already many people who were always looking for the short cut in life. Those are the same people who fall for “get rich quick” schemes but the same mindset will fall for “get thin quick (without any effort!)” diet fads and schemes.

Ok, Let’s Get Real: ANYTHING you want in life that is worthwhile is going to take TIME…. time, and effort, and investment. An investment of time, energy, focus, finances, and repetitive, consistent action.

All of this requires patience, perseverance, commitment, and faith, and if you have a weight loss mindset then hey, you can see it through all the way to your goal weight!

The 3-Day Give Up

A big problem is that many who are struggling to lose weight will give up after only 3 Days of trying to lose weight.

Yes! You read that right: many give up on their weight loss after only 3 days because they weigh themselves every day and if they don’t see a dramatic weight loss in those first 3 days.

Well, it will be impossible to reach your weight loss goal like this because if you lose 2 pounds per week that’s pretty great and a healthy weight loss expectation to have. This means if you have 50 pounds to lose, and you always drop 2 pounds every week (most will hit a plateau at some point, which is another subject) then that will take 25 weeks to get to your goal weight, which will require consistent action meal after meal, sticking with healthy lifestyle habits and choices over that extended time.

Three days is not enough time to see any kind of meaningful results. It will take a full 6 weeks minimum of consistent healthy action (without emotional eating, binge eating, compulsive overeating, etc) to begin to see real, honest to goodness change.

Losing weight is not a short-term project that you can see fast results with, like washing dishes. Even if you have a full sink of dirty dishes you can complete that project rather quickly and see the results of your work. You can get fast, feel-good results from a project like that too. But weight loss is a long-term project and really, it never ends unless you are ok with yo-yo dieting. Otherwise weight loss and weight management will last the rest of your life, if you want to lose weight for good.

There’s another big problem here though, and it’s those “fast feel-good results”, which weight loss won’t give you. So let’s keep going and take a look at the second reason losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done.

2.) Food Addiction is a Real Thing, and it’s a fully legal addiction (!!)

Another reason that losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done is because processed food is highly addictive. With all of the sugar, sodium, preservatives, taste-enhancers and more, highly processed foods set you up for overeating and wanting more, and more, and more.

3.) A Fit Mindset produces Fit Behaviors and on the opposite end, a fat mindset produces fat behaviors.

This is one thing that you might not have ever thought about but it’s another reason that losing weight is the hardest thing you’ve ever done: A Fat Mindset.

But what does this mean?

What In the World is a Fat Mindset?

A fat mindset is a mindset filled with Fear Attracting Thoughts (F.A.T.).

Check this out: Fat = Fear Attracting Thoughts (surprising!) but what exactly does this mean? Let’s look at an example.

An example of a Fear Attracting Thought (F.A.T.) is the thought “I can’t lose weight”.

This one F.A.T. thought is a very big problem because if you believe you can’t lose weight, then you will prove yourself right. This is the problem with a Fat Mindset: what you believe, you will achieve, even if what you believe works against your ultimate weight loss goal. This is why working with the right kind of empowering weight loss mindset coach is important and this is why I love using my master level NLP skills and training with my coaching clients, to help them release a whole list of their limiting beliefs that have been stopping them for years from losing weight.

Once you are free of the limiting beliefs that have been holding you back, then you can move towards your goal weight with ease. You won’t have the brakes on anymore! And once you can let those limiting beliefs go the easier it will be for you to get a weight loss mindset. Eventually you’ll want to move into a Fit Mindset so that you maintain your weight loss and keep it off.
