The New Year of 2009 is right around the corner, depending on where you are at in the world, and it’s that big ‘ole time of year when millions will make a New Years Resolution to lose weight.
A few may stick with it, just like a few in the past have done, but for the most part the majority will drop off after a few weeks or a month or so.
New Years Resolutions – Why Do It?
I’m not saying that it’s “wrong” to make a New Years Resolution, however whether or not it will be effective for you is a different matter.
Now if you are truly inspired (hey, inspired…In Spirit… get it? 😉 ) from the inside because something is moving you to take action now to get healthy and fit and lose weight, then that is a totally different story. If New Years is bringing about this inspiration from your inside and it feels easy and effortless for you, then by all means go for it!
If on the other hand you are making a New Years Resolution to lose weight because you are forcing yourself to take action, thinking that the change of a date will “make you” stick to your resolution, then you could be setting yourself up for a bout of self-criticizm when you don’t follow through.
But why wouldn’t you follow through, you ask? Because you’re forcing yourself to take action – this is not inspiration, it’s not coming from spirit, from within you, but is coming from your head, your intellect.
If you force yourself to make a resolution to lose weight, making this resolution with your intellect (your head only) while your heart, spirit, and emotions are not on board, then you’ll set yourself up to fight that infamous “battle of the bulge”. Now I don’t know about you but hey, it’s not fun to fight and struggle to lose weight! I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and it’s not the kind of fun process that I want to be on in my journey of health and fitness.
If You’re Inspired and In-Spirit…
So if you’ve decided to set a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight my wish for you is that you’re going with the flow of inspiration and that it feels easy and effortless for you to set that resolution, and that it feels easy and effortless to follow through and lose weight.
Allow yourself to Shine On is 2009 and make it the most fun, fit, healthy, tremendous year for yourself to date. Have Fun With It – Have Fun with life while you’re losing weight! 🙂

Nope, I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. However, I did get a jump on those who make New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. I started at the beginning of November and I’m down about 8 lbs. without gaining anything over the holidays.
I hope that your new year is everything you want it to be!

I absolutely agree! The transformation needs to take place in your Spirit first (no matter what time of the year one decides to make a change).
I personally like to “map out goals” vs. “make resolutions”. The difference is that by mapping out goals, I will review them quarterly to see if I’m on track.
I find that the beginning of the year is a perfect time to do this, mainly because I have this “fresh-start-I-can-accomplish-anything” feeling.
Oh my … I think I feel a blog post coming on. Gotta go. Happy New Year.

this seems good advice for those trying to make new years resolutions. so far i have kept mine this year, but the only way that that has worked out is the fact that my resolution was not black and white, or all or nothing, if you will. my diet plans are now structured, but if i am somewhere else or something happens to keep me from the plan then i just let it go and start back again as soon as i can, and….so far so good!
