Daily Weight Loss Motivation: Develop Patience for Weight Loss [Day Five]

How could patience help you get motivated to lose weight? If you’re like everyone else who is struggling you’ve probably never thought as patience as a skill that could give you weight loss motivation, so let’s take a look.

This topic of patience ties in directly with Day Two of this special series on weight loss motivation. You can read Day Two here if you haven’t done so yet.

When you don’t get started to lose weight because you tell yourself it will “take too long”   this is because you lack patience for weight loss, which is part of your problem when it comes to trying to get motivated to lose weight.

Without patience, how can you ever expect to get to your goal weight when the human body can only release one to two pounds of fat per week?

Of course we’re talking about healthy weight loss when you’re losing one to two pounds of fat per week. If you are expecting more than that then you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Only those who are morbidly obese will drop more than one to two pounds per week and that’s not necessarily fat they are dropping.

So, if you’re not morbidly obese, you’ll need to develop the patience for weight loss required in order to stick with it long term, so that you can get all the way to your goal weight. A small step you can start with immediately is my guided meditation on this exact same subject.

Without having the skill of patience for weight loss you’ll continue to think negative, fat thoughts that will motivate more overeating instead of weight loss. Without the necessary skill of patience you’ll think thoughts like:

  • I can’t lose weight (because you can’t have immediate results)
  • I’ll never lose weight (because you can’t lose 20 pounds in 20 days)
  • It will take FOREVER for me to lose weight (because you don’t have the patience to stick with it)

And because you think these thoughts (or similar fat thoughts) you won’t feel any motivation to lose weight since your thinking has defeated you before you’ve begun. See how that works?

To Sum Up

Many times when you think that the problem is weight loss motivation, it’s really more complex than that. After all, how can you feel excited about losing weight when in your mind, you’ve already failed before you begin. Does this make sense?

You need to implement a holistic mind-body solution if you are serious about getting motivated to lose weight so that you can finally lose weight for good.

This is what I coach my weight loss coaching clients through in The Inner Self Diet.

The Inner Self Diet is the diet you need for your mind. It’s the most important diet there is if you are serious about putting an end to your food and weight struggles for good.
